Purpose of the Foundation
Since 2006, the KYTHEREAN FOUNDATION FOR CULTURE & DEVELOPMENT (KIPA), aspires to make Kythera and Antikythera a hub of sustainable development, enhancing the quality of life of the inhabitants and showcasing the cultural and natural heritage of both islands.
The Kytherian Foundation for Culture & Development (ΚΙΠΑ) is a non-profit organization in the form of Legal Entities under Private Law, (LEPL) based in the town of Livadi in Kythera. It was founded in 2006 by Georgios Kasimatis.
The objectives of the Foundation are:
- To preserve and promote the cultural and natural heritage as well as local traditions
- To contribute to the balanced development of all sectors of society while ensuring and enhancing the quality of life of the local community
- To protect the man-made and natural environment of both islands
- To organize, fund and carry out events, scientific research, and programmes
- To promote the cultural and intellectual development of Kythera and Antikythera

Emeritus Professor of the Law School of the University of Athens.
He was born in 1932 in Livadi, Kythera, to farming parents.
He completed his Primary & Secondary Education in Kythira.
He studied Law at the Law School of the University of Athens. Postgraduate studies at the Law Schools of the Universities of Munich (Germany) and Bern (Switzerland).
Doctor of the Law School of the University of Munich and Professor of Constitutional Law & Political Science at the Law School of the University of Athens.
Management & Staff
KIPA is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, which is the supreme body of the Foundation. Statutory governing bodies are the Chairman of the Board of Directors, who is also the President of the Foundation, the General Secretary, and the Treasurer.
The President and the six members are elected by the electorate (which consists of the Board of Directors of the Foundation “Trifyllion Hospital of Kythera”, the Board of Directors of the Society of Kythera Studies, the Board of Directors of the Kythira University Group, and the outgoing Board of Directors). Two members are appointed by a decision of the Board of Directors of the Trifyllio Foundation by its members one month before the end of the term of office for each Board of Directors of the KIPA Foundation.
The term of office for the Board of Directors is five years.
The selection of the people of the administration of the Foundation, but also of its collaborators, is based on ethics, social and professional activities and contributions, the ability to effectively handle cases, and interest in Kytherian affairs.
