The Kytherian Foundation for Culture and Development (KIPA) participated as an honorary guest in a private musical event organized by the British classical music group All Comers Music at the Zeidoros cultural venue.
The purpose of the event was to revisit the goodwill concert that had been organized in London as an expression of solidarity with the local community of Kythera following the devastating wildfire that affected the island in July 2025. The concert was live-streamed in September 2025, while donations were collected through a dedicated KIPA fund established to support nature restoration efforts after the fires.
KIPA General Secretary Ms. Peggy Vassileiou thanked the initiators of the initiative — Florence Cooke (violin), Ruth Gibson (viola), Adi Tall (cello), and Chris Shurety (coordinator of All Comers Music) — and presented an overview of the actions already implemented, as well as those planned for the future.
In particular, she referred to the conference entitled “Kythera after the 2025 Wildfire: Restoration – Regeneration – Prevention”, which marked the starting point of a coherent, scientifically sound, and realistic strategy developed by KIPA in collaboration with environmental organizations. The strategy aims to mitigate the impacts of wildfires on nature and the livelihoods of local communities through a range of supporting actions, including:
• The creation of the “Kytherian Seed Ark”, a small community seed bank dedicated to preserving the agricultural biodiversity of Kythera.
• The completion of an anti-erosion and flood prevention project consisting of 333 stone check dams, a project strongly supported by KIPA and recently delivered successfully to the local community by the contractor company ZITAKAT.
• The forthcoming reforestation study for the area surrounding the Monastery of Myrtidia, which will be funded by KIPA, including donations raised through All Comers Music, with the aim of implementing an artificial reforestation project in accordance with the specifications set by the Greek Forest Services.
KIPA’s dedicated fund for post-fire nature restoration remains open to anyone wishing to contribute:
